The syndicated Profiles series recently featured SFL. Read the 2010 SFL Annual Report The Source for Learning (SFL) is a nonprofit company taking a unique approach to America’s education crisis. While others work on long-term systemic reform, SFL focuses on providing immediate benefits that, cumulatively, will produce transformative change. SFL’s master teachers, child development experts, and researchers develop high-quality, accessible, interactive content for use by parents and teachers of children from birth through grade 12. The content is delivered through five online services. PreschoolFirst.com and GrowUpLearning.com improve school readiness in early learning settings and at home; TeachersFirst.com offers K-12 classroom teachers thousands of resources to enrich teaching and learning; TeachersAndFamilies.com helps parents help their school-age children learn more productively; and SFLMedia.com provides streaming video clips that bring education concepts alive in homes and classrooms. We’ve been doing this for 30 years. The Source for Learning is organizationally and financially stable, our reach is nationwide—and we are effective. Research shows that our approach works; our services win awards; our staff presents at high-profile conferences; and users access our content about 2,000,000 times a month. But some things have not changed. Our staff always works at the leading edge of innovation in both education and technology. Our Board of Directors continues to support the organization as it moves forward. And, most importantly, the company remains mission-driven, dedicated to helping children by promoting excellence in learning. Source for Learning’s services—many offered at no charge—are supported in several ways: through subscriptions to some of our services; by royalties from our broadband channels’ excess capacity—and, in great measure, by donations from generous individuals and organizations. While we’ve accomplished much, there is more to do. SFL seeks mutually beneficial partnerships to expand programs and services and increase awareness, access and affordability. We can offer a corporate partner an opportunity to enhance their visibility, increase their credibility and expand their market share. |
I was very much impressed with TeachersFirst. I am in the process of integrating Web2.0 into all facets of my classroom and instruction and what a wonderful resource your site has proven to be. Tested tools, a strong overview of Web2.0 applications, advice about how to use tools, tutorials, and safety concerns are heaven-sent to this digital immigrant wandering in the wilderness trying to get a meaningful handle on how to harness Web2.0 effectively with a seventh grade class. |
